Planning for Retirement?

Information for: Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS)

Retirement is a big step in life. This guide will help you get information and make informed decisions about your retirement.

Before You Retire

You should inquire about retirement at least six months before your retirement date. This will give you enough time to review your benefits and options. You may also obtain an Estimate of Retirement Benefits, which estimates your monthly retirement allowance, the benefits payable to your beneficiary upon your death under the various retirement options, and your life insurance benefits.

Regulations, new or amended, are published in the New Jersey Register by the State Office of Administrative Law supplementing the New Jersey Administrative Code. This guidebook, containing current updates, is available for viewing on the NJ Division of Pensions & Benefits website at: While at the New Jersey Division of Pensions & Benefits (NJDPB) website, be sure to check for PERS-related forms, fact sheets, and news affecting the PERS.
